Acoustic Album coming soon:

I am often asked for a sample of what I do at the gigs. I am currently working on an acoustic album. In the meantime, you can see some clips, both acoustic and in a band setting, on the Videos page.

For original music, here is a multitracked album I recorded at home of some songs co-written by myself and two of my musical soulmates, John Portuondo and Nelson Felipe.

D.I.Y.

Sounds like a band. Feels like a band. But look, Ma, no band! Just me, myself, and I (eight of me to be exact), mixed to sound like a whole band.

D.I.Y. (Slipaway) [3:30]  lyrics
The title track introduces this project, intentionally weak and distorted, reflecting the point in my life when I would be let down by yet another band (for the last time). After the promising hook, the second verse comes in loud and clear, and continues chronicling the band’s demise, until the track ends with a promise to not let the dream slip away.

Set 'em Straight [2:23]  lyrics
"Set 'em Straight", is a cocky calling card to the world that a new sound (or at least a new way of making it) was here.

Ecumenical Day [3:30]  lyrics
"Ecumenical Day" is a driving, angry song about all of the violent hypocrisy amongst the world's religions, calling them all to recognize the golden rule common to them all.

Pizza in Paradise [4:27]  lyrics
"Pizza in Paradise" takes a lighthearted look at another heavy spiritual subject, the doctrine of a man claiming to feed himself to his followers in a piece of bread. Craziness. Let the analogies begin.

Like Superman [4:55]  lyrics
"Like Superman" is not a romantic song, but can certainly be used that way. It was actually written to a father figure who guided me through the first heartache of my life. (His boss, ironically, would guide me through the worst one several years later.)

Goodbye, Regina [4:42]  lyrics
Who’s Regina? I’m often asked. No one in particular, though it started out that way. "Goodbye, Regina" is about the tension of wanting more than a friendship with someone, while at the same time knowing that it’s not meant to be.

Saint Michael the Archangel [2:54]  lyrics
Angels aren’t cute little cherubs playing harps, though paintings depict them that way. Tradition depicts them instead as warriors fighting a war we can only imagine (and poorly at that). “Saint Michael the Archangel” is not exactly a song for Sunday school kids. But maybe it should be.

Freedom and Chains [3:55]  lyrics
“Freedom and Chains” juxtaposes life and death, asking how some terrible things keep happening, but in a defiant way that takes on the contradictions (as if we had a choice).

California Classic [3:43]  lyrics
And who hasn’t met a “California Classic”? She’s a bubbling wannabe actress with aspirations as shallow as her chances. But then again, she is easy on the eyes. For now, that is.

Got God? [2:54]  lyrics
“Got God?” There’s an irresistible pull to something more than all of this. Do you feel it too?

Alaska [5:18]  lyrics
“Alaska” was my father’s favorite song, and I thank God that I was able to record it in time for him to hear it before he passed away. It made him feel like he was really there, before it was time to go to a place where he could follow his own dreams.

The Eyes Have It [1:33]  lyrics
And since I hate long, drawn out goodbyes, I prefer a quick but sincere “see you later”. One way people used to put something to a group vote is to say, “All in favor say ‘I’”. If the I’s outnumber those who don’t speak up, then the “I’s have it”. If I was to vote on the sexiest part of a woman’s body, I would have to say, “The Eyes Have It”. (See?)
