big bang bible summary

I put this together for anyone who would like to get the whole story told in the Bible in one shot. Maybe you already know about Adam and Eve, Noah's ark, Samson and Delilah, David and Goliath, and the stories about Jesus, but you don't know or remember how they all fit together. It's probably because the individual stories are not in order. They jump back and forth in time, with some parts repeated, other parts missing, and too many numbers and family trees to keep track of anything. Even after reading the whole Bible, I didn't get the whole story, and this really bothered me!

So I set out on a quest to get the whole story, no matter how long it took. It took me several years, the end result of which is this summary. Keep in mind I did this before there was the Internet or Google. But even today for whatever reason you'll be hard pressed to find the whole story in one shot. Unless, of course, you found this page :-)

So here's how it works. Imagine all of the individual stories rearranged in order, with the doubles taken out and the missing parts filled in. Then imagine taking that one long story and dividing it into 12 historical periods. It would look something like this:

The Whole Story in 12 Periods:

1. Beginnings

2. The Patriarchs

3. Exodus from Egypt

4. Desert Journey

5. Conquest of Canaan

6. The Early Kingdom

7. The Divided Kingdom

8. Ending in Exiles

9. The Restoration

10. Revolution and Occupation

11. Jesus Christ

12. The Apostolic Church

And there you have it - the entire story from beginning to end, in order, in 12 readable (and printer-friendly) pages. Take your time time reading them, since the story is packed tight. Try to answer the questions at the bottom right of each page before moving on to the next to really sink in the story. All of the answers can be found in the text. When you get through all 12 periods, you'll have read the whole story in a nutshell! May you fall in love with it the way I did.

(Send me an email if you'd like to schedule a presentation of the whole story as a live talk for your group.)

The order of the books in the Bible used to drive me crazy, and it still makes many people give up who have tried reading the whole thing from beginning to end. The opening books of Genesis and Exodus have readable enough stories, but once you get to Leviticus and Numbers, you find just that: numbers and more numbers! Between the numbers, genealogies, lists and measurements, it's just too easy to lose track of the whole story.

Let this table be your shortcut through the entire story. Eventually I will post additional modules explaining where each book fits in the overall story, how the whole book was put together, and a comparison between the Bible and other books, beliefs, history, and science.

But first things first: let's get the story down!

Study Question:

What can't you just read the whole Bible from start to finish and get the whole story?
